I wanted to be an architect and other musings

Oscar Wilde said, “If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but what I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward.”

I’ve lived this quote both ways, I was an architect and now I’m not. I prefer the latter. I got what I wanted and I did not like it for the most part because it wasn’t colorful enough. I really love design, color, and composition, but in the real world of architecture, it’s 2% pick a good color and 98% make it work. Grueling stuff. Now as a recovering architect (I still say yes to a few cottages here and there) I pick colors all day long. I play. I muse. I think. I putter. It’s marvelous. So now my life is 80% pick a good color and 20% make it work depending on the week. You can hear the whole saga on a podcast that I’m honored to be interviewed by Margo Tantau: Windowsill Chats hosted by Margot Tantau.

I had a POP UP! Bastille Day and the day after. 2 days of retail therapy! I had as much of my stuff that I could organize and haul set up in a wonderful space by my friend who leases the space for a yoga studio formerly known as Ritual House and she plans to open again in the autumn. All of the items in my pop up are available in my studio gift shop on Capitol Hill by appointment or special open days. I had my cards, original art, art scarves, and products of others that evoke all things Baby Buddha Studio, Koinobori carp kites by Madame Mo, Demeter scents, The Baguette Pen, Kuratake watercolor sets and lots more! The pop up was a great success and I want to shout MERCI! to all of you that took the time to come and visit!
